[Rare] Grand Seiko 2nd Model Early Type 43999 W, Seiko Crown, Lion Medallion, Manual Wind, Overhauled, Manufactured in 1964 (Showa 39)

This is the second model of Grand Seiko, the pinnacle of Japanese watchmaking.

Production of the Grand Seiko second model began in 1964, four years after the first model.
Compared to the first model, a date display (with a quick-set function) was added.
It features a screw-down case back, achieving 50m water resistance (at the time of manufacture),
greatly improving its practicality.

The case is made of stainless steel.
The thickened lugs improve durability and give the watch a strong presence.
 

This particular piece is an early version featuring the "Lion Medallion" on the case back, making it a rare find with limited production even among second models.

The dial is an early type, with Grand Seiko Diashock 35 jewels printed at the 6 o'clock position. (Later models feature the GS logo instead.)
The mirror-finished, multi-faceted hour and minute hands and indices emit an elegant glow.
 

The movement is the manual-winding "Cal. 430."

The 5.5mm diameter crown is large and easy to grip, making it recommended even for those new to manual-winding watches.

How to operate Caliber 430

Manual winding: Rotate upwards in the normal crown position.

Time setting: Pull the crown out to the second click and rotate downwards.

The second hand stops when pulled to the second click.

Date quick-set: Pull the crown out to the first click and rotate downwards.

Performing a quick-set operation while the watch hands are between 9:00 PM and 2:00 AM will cause a malfunction.
We recommend setting the time to around 6 o'clock before performing the quick-set.

Condition

This watch has been overhauled and the exterior polished by our shop.

The leather strap has been replaced with a new genuine product, so you can wear it with comfort.
 

The crown is original and features the "W SEIKO" logo.
Many second models have worn-out or replaced crowns, but this piece retains its original "W SEIKO" crown.

The gold medallion on the back has some dents and wear along the edge.

There is some sun damage and scratching on the dial, but it remains in good overall aesthetic condition.
 

Due to its age, this watch is not water-resistant.
Please avoid wearing it on rainy or hot days.
