This is an Elgin manual-winding watch from around 1954.
Elgin, founded in 1864, was a leading American watch brand that, along with Waltham, shaped an era of the American watch industry until its factory closed in 1964.
This particular model dates from the period when it used American-made movements.
The movement is a Cal. 683, with serial number K632140.
The case was manufactured by the American case maker "STAR WATCH CASE COMPANY", which has since gone out of business, and has an engraving on the case back.
This model features a rounded rectangular case and a thick, "kamaboko-shaped" crystal.
The dial has Arabic numerals and triangular indices, with a sub-second dial at 6 o'clock.
It's a superb piece that offers a glimpse into the trends of its time.
How to Operate
Manual winding: Turn the crown upwards in the normal position.
To wind the mainspring, slowly and carefully turn the crown upwards.
When you start winding, the crown may feel light, but it will become heavier as it winds up.
With manual-winding watches, forcing the mainspring when it is fully wound can cause it to break. Please be careful.
How to pull out the crown: Gently pull it out by inserting a fingernail between the case and the crown.
To prevent the crown from bending, please remove the watch from your wrist before operating.
Gentle operation can reduce stress on the crown.
Setting the time: Pull out the crown and turn it downwards.
The second hand does not stop.
Condition
This watch has been overhauled and the exterior has been polished by our store.
The strap has been replaced with a new CASSIS one, so you can enjoy using it comfortably.
The crown operates smoothly.
There are small stains on the dial.
Due to its age, it is not water resistant.
Please avoid wearing it on rainy days, hot days, and keep it away from moisture.
Please also be careful of shocks and magnetism.
