商品説明
This is the VULCAIN alarm watch, the "Cricket."
The "Cricket" is famous as a model favored by past U.S. presidents (such as Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th president).
Its alarm sound is similar to the chirping of a cricket, which led to its nickname, "Cricket (English name)," making it an interesting and talked-about model.
The case is large for the 1950s, with a diameter of 38mm and a vertical length of 46mm (including the lugs).
With a lug width of 20mm, the strap width is well-balanced and does not appear small compared to the case diameter.
It is relatively thin at 12mm, and features a domed case back that amplifies the alarm sound.
Patent numbers "2554402 2568795 2644294" are engraved on the case back.
Various patent numbers are also engraved on the movement.
It is rare to find an antique watch with so many patent number engravings.
The installed Caliber 120 is the first mass-produced alarm movement for wristwatches.
It contains two mainsprings: one for the "alarm" and one for "timekeeping."
The alarm volume is sufficient for an alarm clock.
How to Operate
Time setting: Pull the crown out two clicks and rotate downwards.
The hands move clockwise (cannot be turned counter-clockwise or backward due to slipping).
Winding the mainspring for timekeeping: With the crown in its normal position, rotate downwards.
Winding the mainspring for the alarm: With the crown in its normal position, rotate upwards.
Setting the alarm time: Lightly press the button at 2 o'clock to pull the crown out one click, then press the button at 2 o'clock all the way in to pull the crown out two clicks, and rotate the crown upwards.
If you press the button at 2 o'clock all the way in at once, it will cause a malfunction.
Please perform the button pressing operation in two steps.
The alarm hand on the inner dial moves counter-clockwise (cannot be turned clockwise).
Move the hand to the desired alarm time and return the crown to its normal position to turn the alarm ON.
Turning the alarm ON: Set the crown to its normal position.
Even if the alarm is ON, it will not sound if the alarm mainspring is not wound.
If the alarm mainspring is not wound, the alarm hammer will be free, and a clicking sound when shaking the watch is normal.
Turning the alarm OFF: Lightly press the button at 2 o'clock to pull the crown out one click.
Perform this operation if you want to stop a sounding alarm.
In the state of "button pressed and crown pulled out one click," the crown will rotate freely when turned, which is normal.
