This is a rare 57-jewel model of the Rado Golden Horse.
The 57-jewel model is the top-tier version of the Golden Horse, produced in limited quantities to commemorate the birth of the Rado brand in 1957.
The Golden Horse gained popularity as a Swiss-made automatic (with hand-winding) model featuring a water-resistant case (by the standards of the time).
A common feature of the Horse series is the Seahorse, Rado's icon for water-resistant cases, which is placed on both the dial and the case back.
This particular piece features two facing seahorses on the dial and the case back.
The screw-back case features an "Water-Sealed" engraving. (Please note that it is no longer water-resistant due to the age of the watch.)
The seahorse logo is featured in a size that occupies most of the case back.
It boasts an attractive design that combines a polished finish with a matte (satin) finish.
The Rado brand symbol, the anchor logo, is placed at the 12 o'clock position on the dial. It moves occasionally.
The indices at the 12, 6, and 9 o'clock positions feature a rare wedge shape.
Operation
Hand-winding: With the crown in the normal position, rotate upwards.
Setting the time: Pull the crown out to the first click and rotate downwards.
Date quick-set: Pull the crown out to the first click and move the time back and forth between "8:20 PM and 12:00 AM."
1) Advance the hands until the date changes to confirm it is midnight.
If the date changes, it is midnight. If it does not, it is noon.
2) Once you have confirmed the date has changed, turn the hands back to 8:20 PM.
This prepares the calendar to advance to the next day.
3) Advance the hands to midnight again.
Confirm that the date has advanced by one day.
By repeating steps 1) through 3), you can quickly advance the date one day at a time.
Please operate slowly to reduce stress on the movement.
Condition
This watch has been overhauled and the exterior has been refinished.
The crown is original to Rado and features the anchor logo.
Hand-winding operation is smooth.
The bracelet is original and can accommodate a wrist size of up to 190mm.
The crystal has some fine scratches and linear marks that could not be removed by polishing, but dial visibility remains good.
The dial shows some aging, but has a champagne gold hue that gives it an authentic vintage feel.
There are faint cracks on the bezel near the 7 and 11 o'clock positions, but they do not affect wearability.
Due to its age, it is not water-resistant.
Please avoid wearing it on rainy or hot days.
Also, be careful to avoid shocks and magnetic fields.
