商品説明
This is a 1969 56 King Seiko non-date model.
King Seiko was a series positioned at the very top of the lineup alongside Seiko's highest-end "Grand Seiko" watches, and was produced until the 1970s.
The 56 King Seiko is the first automatic high-beat model from King Seiko.
It features a rare non-date specification for an automatic King Seiko model.
As it is a non-date model, it can be worn more casually than other King Seiko models without the need for calendar adjustments.
The case adopts a rounded, square, cushion-like shape.
It features a monocoque case construction, and the back is equipped with a gold KS medallion.
While cushion-case models are relatively rare among 56 King Seiko watches, this particular piece is an even rarer "Cap Gold (CG)" specification.
At the time, the retail price for the stainless steel (SS) model was 20,000 yen, while this Cap Gold (CG) model was set at a higher price tier of 25,000 yen. In 1970, when the starting salary for a college graduate was around 40,000 yen, this 5,000 yen price difference was significant, equivalent to tens of thousands of yen in today's currency.
What is interesting here is that for the average office worker seeking the rational practicality of a "non-date" model that requires no calendar adjustment, it was only natural to choose the SS (silver-colored) model, which could be worn universally and without hesitation in business settings. In business environments that favored subdued tones, the flashy gold case was less likely to be an option.
In other words, considering that many of those seeking a practical non-date model would have logically chosen the SS model, and that even looking at catalog data from the time, there were no design variations for the CG model (it only existed as a "silver dial with bar indices"), the consumer base that chose this CG specification was naturally limited to a very small group even at the time.
In addition to the extremely low production numbers themselves, combined with this background, this piece has become a historically rare model with a remarkably small number of surviving examples today, more than half a century later.
The dial features a sunray finish with a subtle luster. Due to aging, the dial has transformed into a beautiful champagne gold-like hue, and despite more than half a century passing, it maintains an extremely beautiful condition with no concerning signs of aging or spotting.
The crown features the "KS" engraving exclusive to King Seiko.
With a diameter of 5.5mm, it is easy to grip, and both manual winding and time setting can be performed smoothly.
This is highly recommended for those looking for a special vintage watch that is simple, elegant, and backed by a rich history.
Condition
This watch has been serviced (overhauled).
The strap has been replaced with a brand new (genuine) one, so it is comfortable to wear.
The crown is a genuine KS part and is in beautiful condition without wear.
The crystal has only a few minute scratches and is extremely clear, highlighting the beauty of the dial.
The case shows surface scratches, linear scuffs, and small dents consistent with its age, but the thick gold plating unique to the gold cap remains intact, giving it a very tasteful, vintage character.
The medallion on the back has some slight loss on the edges of the alphabetical characters, but the overall relief remains well-defined, and it is in relatively beautiful aesthetic condition.
As this is a vintage watch, it is not waterproof. Use in environments with high moisture (on rainy days, while washing your face, on hot days when you might sweat, etc.) is strictly prohibited.
As this is a precision instrument, please be careful of drops and strong impacts.
Also, please be careful not to bring it near strong magnetic sources such as smartphones, PCs, or magnets on bag fasteners.
Operation Instructions
How to pull the crown: Insert your fingernail between the case and the crown and gently pull it out.
Pulling the crown too hard may cause it to come out. Please pull it out gently.
To prevent the crown stem from bending, please remove the watch from your wrist before operation.
Operating it gently will reduce the strain on the crown.
Manual winding: Rotate upward while the crown is in the normal position.
Time setting: Pull the crown out and rotate downward.
The second hand will stop.
