[Rare] Grand Seiko Second Model Early Type 5722-9990, Lion Medallion, W-Seiko Crown, Manual-Wind, Overhauled, Manufactured in 1965 (Showa 40)

This is the second model of Grand Seiko, the pinnacle of Japanese watchmaking.

Production of the Grand Seiko second model began in 1964, four years after the first model.
Compared to the first model, a date display (with a quick-set feature) was added.
It features a screw-down case back, achieving 50m water resistance (at the time of manufacture),
improving its overall practicality.

This particular piece features a "Lion Medallion" on the case back, making it a rare version with a low production volume even among second models.

The dial is an early type, with "Grand Seiko Diashock 35 jewels" printed at the 6 o'clock position. (Later types feature the GS logo instead.)
The applied mark found on the earliest dials has been removed, resulting in a cleaner design.
The indices and hour/minute hands feature multi-faceted cutting and a mirror finish, emitting an elegant brilliance.

The case is made of stainless steel.
The thickly designed lugs provide enhanced durability and a strong sense of presence.
 

It is equipped with the hand-wound "Cal.5722A" movement.
The 5.5mm diameter crown is large and easy to grip, making it recommended even for those new to hand-wound watches.

How to operate the Cal.5722A

Hand-winding: With the crown in the normal position, rotate it upwards.
 

How to pull the crown: Insert a fingernail between the case and the crown and use it like a lever.

Please remove the watch from your wrist before operating.
Operating it gently will reduce the strain on the crown.

Time setting: Pull the crown out to the second click and rotate downwards.

The second hand will stop.

Date quick-set: Pull the crown out to the first click and rotate downwards.

Performing a quick-set operation while the watch hands are between '9:00 PM and 2:00 AM' will cause a malfunction.
We recommend setting the time to around 6 o'clock before performing the quick-set operation.

Condition

This item has been overhauled and externally polished by our shop.

The crown is original and features the W SEIKO logo.
Many second model examples have worn-out or replaced crowns,
but this piece retains its "W SEIKO" crown.
The original shape of the crown is well-preserved, and it operates smoothly.

The dial on this piece is in excellent condition.
The gold medallion on the back is in good condition with no noticeable scratches.

Due to its age, it is not water-resistant.
Please avoid wearing it on rainy or hot days.
