[Rare] Grand Seiko Second Model Early Type 43999, W SEIKO crown, Lion medallion, Cal. 5722A, manual-wind, overhauled, manufactured in 1965 (Showa 40)

This is the second model of the Grand Seiko, the pinnacle of Japanese watchmaking.

The Grand Seiko second model began production in 1964, four years after the first model.
Compared to the first model, a date display (with a quick-set function) was added.
It adopts a screw-down case back, achieving a 50m water-resistant specification (at the time of manufacture).
The case material is stainless steel, improving practicality.
The thicker lugs improve durability and give the watch a strong presence.

This particular piece is an early version featuring a "Lion Medallion" on the case back, making it rare even among second models due to its low production numbers.

The dial is an early type, with Grand Seiko Diashock 35 jewels printed at the 6 o'clock position. (This changes to the GS logo in later types.)
It features the AD dial mark at the 6 o'clock position, common to early dials.
The mirror-finished, multi-faceted hour and minute hands and indices cast an elegant glow.
 

The movement is the hand-wound Cal. 5722A.

The 5.5mm diameter crown is large and easy to grip, making it recommended even for those new to hand-wound watches.

How to operate Caliber 5722A

Hand-winding: Rotate upwards in the normal crown position

Time setting: Pull the crown out to the second click and rotate downwards

The second hand will stop.

Date quick-set: Pull the crown out to the first click and rotate downwards

Do not perform a quick-set operation while the watch hands are between "9:00 PM and 2:00 AM," as this will cause damage.
We recommend setting the time to around 6:00 before using the quick-set function.

Condition

This piece has been overhauled and professionally polished by our shop.

The leather strap has been replaced with a brand new genuine part, so you can wear it with comfort.

There are minor scratches on the crystal that could not be removed by polishing.

The crown is original and features the W SEIKO logo.
Many second-model crowns are worn out or have been replaced, but this unit retains its original "W SEIKO" crown.

The engraving on the back is faint, but the gold medallion is in good condition with no noticeable damage.

While there is some slight staining on the dial, the watch is in beautiful overall condition with no prominent scratches or stains.
 

Due to its age, this watch is not water-resistant.
Please avoid wearing it on rainy or hot, humid days.
Also, please take care to avoid shocks and magnetic fields.
