This is a 1969 "IWC" automatic model, Ref. 817A.
With a case diameter of 35.8mm, it is relatively large for an IWC from the same era.
It is a rare model featuring a screw-back case.
The crown is genuine IWC with the "fish" logo.
The dial features a sunburst finish, giving it an elegant shimmer depending on the angle.
At the 12 o'clock position, the applied "IWC" logo and the "International Watch Co" company name in script are both present, creating a true vintage aesthetic.
It is powered by the Pellaton automatic movement, "Cal. 8541."
Compared to the previous Cal. 8531, this movement is thinner and features a quick-set date function (by toggling between 0:00 and 23:45), and manual winding capability, making it highly practical.
How to operate
Manual winding: Turn clockwise while the crown is in the standard position.
Time setting: Pull out the crown and turn clockwise.
The second hand will stop.
Quick-set date: Pull out the crown and toggle between "23:45 and 24:00" while in time-setting mode.
1) Advance the hands until the time passes midnight (24:00).
If the date changes, it is midnight. If it does not, it is noon.
2) Once you have confirmed the date has changed, move the hands back to 23:45.
This prepares the watch to advance to the next day's date.
3) Advance the hands forward to 24:00.
Confirm that the date has advanced by one day.
By repeating steps 1) through 3), you can advance the date one day at a time.
Please operate slowly to reduce the strain on the movement.
Condition
This watch has been overhauled and the exterior has been refinished.
The dial has an overall patina, giving it a nice character.
The crystal has minor scratches that could not be polished out, but visibility of the dial remains good.
Crown operation is smooth.
The strap is an aftermarket alligator leather strap with a 20mm lug width.
Although there are signs of wear such as creases and rubbing, it is still in usable condition.
The buckle is genuine IWC with a 15mm width. There are scratches and dings on the buckle.
Due to its age, this watch is not waterproof.
Please avoid wearing it on rainy days or during hot weather.
Please also be careful to avoid shocks and magnetic fields.
