Manufactured in 1962, the Citizen Super Deluxe is the pinnacle of Citizen's dress watches.
It was born as a premium version of the "Citizen Deluxe," which was a massive hit at the time for being touted as the thinnest domestically produced wristwatch.
A refined face unique to early models
As this piece is an early model from 1962, it features a classical and clean dial design, lacking the three-star mark at the 6 o'clock position seen in later versions. This allows the beautiful sunburst (radial) finish, which radiates from the center, to stand out even more on its elegant face.
The internal movement features a special 5-position adjustment, a testament to the meticulous calibration performed by skilled technicians of the era. The case back is engraved with "SPECIALLY ADJUSTED," and the movement boasts a beautiful red-gold plated finish. It serves as proof that this is a special timepiece, crafted by gathering the very best of Citizen's technical expertise at the time.
A design balancing presence and class, with a rare original buckle
The charm of this model lies, above all, in its impressive design. It adopts a large 36.7mm diameter case with thicker-than-usual lugs, giving it a remarkable presence that matches modern styles despite being a vintage watch. The case is finished with an 80-micron thick 14K gold plating, which, due to its durable thickness, retains a beautiful golden luster.
The dial features a sunburst finish that shines elegantly depending on the angle of light. The elegant, script-style "Citizen Super Deluxe" logo is placed at the 12 o'clock position. The combination of long, slender bar indices and classical dauphine hands creates a simple yet sophisticated atmosphere.
Furthermore, this piece comes with the original vintage Citizen "C-mark" gold buckle (13.5mm width), a much-coveted item among enthusiasts. It is an extremely rare set that significantly enhances the value of the collection, as finding such a buckle separately is nearly impossible.
Condition
This watch has been overhauled.
The leather strap has been replaced with a brand-new Italian calfskin strap, fitted with the rare original Citizen C-mark buckle (13.5mm width).
*Please note that since the original vintage buckle is 13.5mm wide and modern strap ends are 14mm, it may feel slightly tight or difficult to pass the strap through the buckle. We have opted for this combination to prioritize the originality of the precious vintage buckle, and we ask for your understanding.
While the case has minor scratches commensurate with its vintage age, there is no peeling of the gold plating, and it retains its luster. There is a single, tiny dot-like indentation (mark) on the upper center of the case back (near the top of the engraving) due to aging. This part is not visible when worn as it faces the arm.
The dial remains in very beautiful condition, with the center sunburst finish, indices, and hands being clear. However, there is some light discoloration on the outer edge of the dial due to age, as well as minor scratches on the edge near the 2 o'clock position. This is within a range that can be viewed as the characteristic texture of an antique piece, but please confirm this beforehand.
Because this is an older vintage watch, it is non-waterproof. Avoid use in high-moisture environments (rainy days, washing your face, wearing on hot days where you may sweat, etc.).
As this is a precision instrument, please be careful of drops and strong impacts.
Also, please keep it away from objects that emit strong magnetism, such as smartphones, PCs, or magnetic bag clasps.
Operation Method
How to pull the crown: Insert a fingernail between the case and the crown, and move it like a lever.
Pulling the crown too forcefully may cause it to come out; please pull it out gently.
To prevent the crown stem from bending, please remove the watch from your wrist before operating it.
Handling it gently will reduce the burden on the crown.
Hand-winding: In the normal position of the crown, rotate upwards.
Time setting: Pull the crown out, then rotate downwards.
The second hand does not stop.
