LONGINES CONQUEST Cal.291 / Ref.9024 / Automatic Date

The "Conquest" was introduced in the 1950s as Longines' flagship collection. This piece is a Ref.9024 (case back marking: 9024 5 634) featuring a stainless steel case. The screw-down case back retains the well-preserved gold-colored medallion (enameled finish) depicting the fish design that was symbolic of the Conquest at the time.

It is powered by the "Cal. 291," a renowned self-winding movement manufactured in-house by Longines. Designed with a pursuit of both durability and beauty, such as the use of rubies for the rotor bearings, it also features a date display at the 3 o'clock position.

A major highlight of this individual piece is its dial design. Unlike standard sunray finishes starting from the center, it features a rare sunburst pattern that radiates from the "LONGINES" logo at the 12 o'clock position. It offers a unique look that changes with the reflection of light. Due to aging, it has mellowed into a calm champagne gold tone, exuding a true vintage character.

Another great appeal is that it comes with a genuine vintage Longines buckle, featuring the iconic winged logo of the era in a raised design.

Condition

This watch has been overhauled.

Dial/Hands: The entire dial has aged to a pale champagne gold tone. There is some paint peeling on the outer edge (near the 2-minute mark). The hands show discoloration commensurate with age.
Crystal: Replaced with a compatible (unused) tension-ring crystal. It is very clear with no noticeable scratches, only light scuffs from storage, ensuring good visibility.
Crown: A genuine piece featuring the "LONGINES" text and the "winged hourglass" logo. It is 4.1mm in diameter, shows no major deterioration, and operates smoothly.
Case: While there are fine scuffs and minor scratches due to age, the watch retains its original form without signs of excessive polishing.
Strap/Buckle: The strap is a new Morellato (black). The buckle is a rare, genuine vintage Longines piece.

As this is a vintage timepiece, it is not waterproof. Use in environments with moisture (rainy days, washing your face, wearing on hot days with sweat, etc.) is strictly prohibited.
As this is a precision instrument, please be careful to avoid drops or strong impacts. Additionally, keep it away from objects that emit strong magnetic fields, such as smartphones, PCs, or magnets on bag clasps.

Caliber 291 Operation

There is no second-hand stop (hacking) function.

Manual winding: Rotate upwards in the normal crown position

Time setting: Pull out the crown and rotate downwards

Date quick-set: Pull out the crown and move between 9 PM and 12 AM (21:00–24:00)

1) Advance the hands until 12 AM (24:00).
If the date changes, it is midnight. If it does not, it is noon.

2) Once you have confirmed the date change, move the hands back to 9 PM (21:00).
This readies the mechanism to advance the date to the next day.

3) Advance the hands to 24:00.
Confirm that the date has advanced by one day.

Repeat steps 1) through 3) to advance the date one day at a time.
Please operate slowly to reduce strain on the movement.
